Artist statement:
My name is Jennifer DeSantis, but you can call me LadyJennD.
Collage is life. Creating order out of chaos. Reimaging… remixing… I am a visual DJ. Much like a DJ mixes sounds to create songs, I take samplings of imagery (and text) and combine them, meld them, mesh them. Bits and pieces of random media become my greater message, my “visual song”.
I mix from things people normally overlook, publications long forgotten and discarded. I layer on imagination, depth, and sub-text.
I want you to “hear” my visualization , as I express it, not necessarily with words, but with the flow of colors and symbols. A dazzling array of details all “synched” to create a much larger overture. Many of my pieces reflect the oddities contained in the philosophic subconscious and have deep meanings I hope resonate with the you. My art comes from the mind, heart, and soul simultaneously.

Bio:
Jennifer DeSantis is a self-taught mixed media collage artist. Born and raised in Waterbury CT, her creativity was nurtured from an early age with the encouragement of her family. She relocated with them to Georgia in 1996, and her passion for collage was birthed there much later, around 2010. She soon began exhibiting in and around Atlanta, GA in group and solo exhibitions.
Jennifer’s art moniker is “LadyJennD”. She loves to refer to her practice of collage as being a “Visual DJ.” Much like a DJ mixes sounds to create songs, she takes samplings of imagery (and text), combines them, melds them, meshes them… to create a visual song.
In 2016, she and her husband moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jennifer continues to pursue her collage endeavors, taking her practice to a full time career in 2021.
She exhibits in numerous pop-up events in and around Albuquerque, as well as the Facebook group, “Creative Handmade Market” regularly. LadyJennD loves to facilitate collage making workshops, assist with curating and coordinating art shows, and help artists along their creative paths!
